On December 19, 1991, Dyersburg State opened the newly constructed Gibson County facility next to Peabody High School in Trenton. The first classes were held in the Center in January, 1992.

Since opening its doors 20 years ago, over 6,000 students have attended classes at the DSCC Gibson County Center. Many of these students have commented that they would never have started college if it were not for the DSCC Gibson County Center.

The Center itself houses six smart classrooms, four of which include Sympodium interactive pen displays; an interactive television (distance learning via videoconferencing) classroom; a mathematics lab with 30 computer stations; a general purpose computer lab with 20 computer stations; a Learning Resource Center equipped with 14 computers; and a combination science classroom/lab which includes 24 lab stations and four computers. In addition, the Center has a large commons area and a bookstore.

The Tennessee Early Childhood Training Alliance (TECTA)  was one of the first programs to be administered by DSCC and housed at the DSCC Gibson County Center. This is a statewide training system designed to provide child care workers with up to 30 hours of free instruction in five areas: infant/newborn, school age, administrator, center-based car, and family-based care.
