How to Apply for Admission

Dual enrollment information for high school juniors and seniors

Below are the basic steps for applying for admission if you plan to work toward a certificate or degree at DSCC.

1. Complete the Application for Admission. There is an application deadline for every term.

  • Review the admissions requirements.
  • Complete the online or paper admissions application if you did not attend DSCC the previous semester excluding summer. First-time applicants are required to pay a one-time, $10 application fee with their initial application.

2.  Request Transcripts

  • Request that your high school, college or GED transcripts be sent directly to the Office of Admissions and Records. Official transcripts are those sent directly to DSCC from all high schools and colleges you've attended and, if applicable, GED scores from your GED Testing Center.

3. Request ACT or SAT Scores.

Request that your official ACT scores be sent directly to the Office of Admissions and Records if you are under 21 years of age and plan to work toward a degree or academic certificate.

If over 21, ACT scores are not needed. However, if you are 21 years of age or older and have not already completed college-level English, mathematics and a reading intensive course with grades of D* or higher, you must take the COMPASS test, which is offered through the DSCC Testing Center.
*For students transferring to DSCC prior to Fall 2012, only grades of "C" or higher were accepted. Acceptance of "D" grades only affects students who transfer to DSCC for Fall 2012 or thereafter.

4. Supply Immunization Information.

  • The State of Tennessee requires that if you plan to register as a full-time student (12 or more credit hours), you must provide proof of having received two doses of the MMR and Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccines unless you are exempt. Tennessee law also requires that you read information about Hepatitis B; if you are admitted to an allied health program requiring patient contact, you must provide proof of having received three doses of the Hepatitis B vaccine unless exempt.
You can attend part-time (11 or fewer credit hours) without immunization documentation.

5.  Wait for a letter from the Office of Admissions and Records.

  • You will receive a letter from the Office of Admissions and Records. The letter will include:

    • Information about your advisor
    • Your username and password for accessing MyDSCC, your information portal

Provisional Admission Applicants who meet the requirements for admission but do not have all the required credentials on file in the Office of Admissions and Records at the time of their first registration may be admitted provisionally for one semester.  By the end of the first semester, students whose credentials have still not been received will not be able to access their final grades or their academic transcript and will be denied further enrollment (including the ability to pre-register) until official copies of all credentials are on file in the Office of Admissions and Records.  Please note that financial aid will not be awarded until all admission requirements are met.
