Professional Experience

* Selected as Dyersburg State's first Outstanding Faculty Member.

* Received National Teaching Excellence Award resulting from a study at the University of Texas in 1989.

* Wrote General Biology for Lecture and Laboratory, now in its fourth edition (published by Burgess Publishing).

* Presented paper, Unorthodox arrangement of sori on Frond of Woodwardia Aereolata at Alabama Academy of Science.

* Worked with Folklorist, Bob Gates, to obtain support from National Endowment for the Humanities to present a public forum on how man's interaction with Reelfoot Lake has affected its history and how these interactions may influence the future of the lake.

* Worked with fellow Biologist, Kenneth Jones, and Chemist, Dr. Aleice Summers, in obtaining an Eisenhower Grant to support a week long seminar on the Natural History of West Tennessee. The seminar had 25 junior high and high school science teacher participants.

* Served as Guest Lecturer for the Tennessee Environmental Association at their 1997 State Conference held at Reelfoot Lake.

* Served as guest lecturer and guide for the State Chapter of the Nature Conservancy upon their visit to Reelfoot Lake.

* Selected as Outstanding Educator of America in 1971.

* Served as Chairman of the Steering Committee for Compliance for Dyersburg State's 25th year's Reaffirmation Study for Accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1995-96.
