The Tapeworm Model
(Flatworm)
This is an enlargement of a sucker, which is one of the organs of attachment located on the head.

Head & Scolex: The head with the prominent suckers (2 shown) used for attachment and the scolex consisting of numerous immature buds which eventually become mature proglottids.

This is a picture of the Head and Scolex with identified organs.

Proglottid completely filled with gravid uterus.

Proglottid with both male
and female sex organs.

A mature proglottid with all parts.

This is a short section of the tape worm (flatworm) composed of seven proglottids.

Cysticercus or bladderworm. (Young parasite enmeshed in striated muscle of host)
Tapeworm cyst that may become encysted in the voluntary muscles of the host. It is also known as a bladder worm or cysticercus in this stage.
