Mar 27, 2014 | 7:30 PM to Mar 29, 2014 | 7:30 PM - DSCC Theatre Production of "Bus Stop"

The Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Theatre Department has announced the cast for William Inge’s “Bus Stop”.  This play production will be presented on March 27 - 29 at 7:30 p.m. nightly at the First Citizen’s National Bank (FCNB) Auditorium on the Dyersburg campus.

“Bus Stop” opened on Broadway in 1955, and in 1956 the film version of the play, starring Marilyn Monroe, was made. The story has been likened to an Edward Hopper painting brought to life.

In the middle of a howling snowstorm, a bus out of Kansas City pulls up at a cheerful small town diner. All roads are blocked, and four or five weary travelers are going to have to hole up until morning. Cherie, a nightclub chanteuse in a less than elegant and rather flashy ensemble, is the passenger with most to worry about. She's been pursued, made love to and finally kidnapped by a twenty-one-year-old cowboy with a ranch of his own and the romantic methods of an unusually headstrong bull. The belligerent cowhand is right behind her, ready to sling her over his shoulder and carry her, alive and kicking, all the way to Montana. Even as she's ducking out from under his clumsy but confident embraces, and screeching at him fiercely to shut him up, she pauses to furrow her forehead and muse, "Somehow deep inside of me I got a funny feeling I'm gonna end up in Montana …" As a counterpoint to the main romance, the proprietor of the cafe and the bus driver at last find time to develop a friendship of their own; a middle-age scholar comes to terms with himself; and a young girl who works in the cafe also gets her first taste of romance.

The cast includes:

Kady Carpenter of Dyersburg as Cherie; Bryan Thomas of Newbern as Bo; Brock Elkins of Dyersburg as Virgil; Rick Campbell of Dyersburg as Will; Crystal Stockdale of Hornbeak as Elma; Eli McCaig of Trenton as Dr. Lyman;  Cathy Snodgrass of Dyersburg as Grace; and Bobby Solmon of Dyersburg as Carl.

Crew members include:

  • Lara Beth Cherry of Dyersburg: Stage Manager
  • Chris Smith of Halls and Lawson Mann of Dyer, and Dakota Simpson of Dyersburg:  Lights and Sound
  • Jake Burg of Dyersburg, Austin Brown of Newbern and Reed Hester of Halls; as well as Introduction to Theatre classes: Set Construction

Advance tickets for groups of ten or more can be purchased by calling 731-286-3261.  Admission for the general public is $6.00 while admission for DSCC Students, Faculty and Staff is $5.00.
