What is Service Learning? Service Learning is meaningful community service that is linked to students' academic experience through related course material and reflective activity. Service Learning exists to help students attain a better understanding of society and the forces of change in the hope that the student will then become an effective agent of change in their community. Service Learning will bring together what you are learning in the classroom and service to your community. We have all been in a position when we needed help with something. Service learning can vary from helping with homework in an elementary, middle or high school, assisting with the filing of a tax return, making a resume, planning a budget or offering to talk to someone. Helping each other throughout the community creates an epidemic of good citizenship. Why should we only come together in times of crisis? Let's teach every generation the gift of compassion. This semester you may or may not have a class participating in a service learning project, but you can still get involved. Let's put your knowledge into action!
