The Division of Arts and Sciences at Dyersburg State Community College provides quality instruction in general education courses, university transfer programs, early childhood education programs and developmental studies in Dyersburg, at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County and at the DSCC Gibson County Center. The division offers a wide variety of courses designed to provide students with the background knowledge, communication skills and critical thinking skills required for success in the 21st century. Students may earn associate degrees and/or transfer academic work to use toward baccalaureate degrees as well as acquire the practical skills necessary for employment. Small class size provides students with an environment that stimulates personal development, promotes educational growth and allows for individual attention.

To improve the quality of life in the College’s service area, faculty and staff promote service learning opportunities; advise students on curricular matters; sponsor student organizations; organize cultural and academic events for the community; collaborate with employers, schools and community organizations; and volunteer their time and services to various agencies.

The developmental studies program, a department within the Division of Arts and Sciences, assists students in attaining college-level competencies in reading, writing and mathematics.

Arts and Sciences faculty meet or exceed the qualifications established for colleges by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Many have earned a doctoral degree in their teaching field and are active in state and national professional organizations.
