SkillsUSA Kickoff Event
Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) will host a SkillsUSA Kickoff Event for students, faculty and staff Thursday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. – noon. The event will be held inside the Student Center on the DSCC Dyersburg campus and inside the Student Center at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County. Free doughnuts and giveaways will be distributed during the events.
Attendees will learn more about the SkillsUSA program. State and national officers will work with students to jump-start involvement, and staff will train each locations’ career and technical education instructors. Students will be able to receive information about SkillsUSA and the benefits they can receive by being a member. Tennessee college students will begin to enhance their studies with SkillsUSA’s career-readiness focus and structured program of work which are integrated into the learning process. The program includes classroom-based activity, community activity and a structured competition program at the local, state and national levels.
SkillsUSA is a nonprofit partnership of students, instructors and industry, which ensures America has the skilled workforce it needs to stay competitive. Founded in Tennessee in 1965, SkillsUSA serves more than 335,000 students and instructors in middle schools, high schools and colleges. This diverse talent pipeline covers 130 trade, technical and skilled service occupations, the majority Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)-related.
