Before You See Your Advisor

DSCC student
Before you see an advisor, students are encouraged to follow the 10 steps below.
  1. If you are a degree seeking student, you must complete the following steps to be granted acceptance into DSCC:

    • Submit an application for admissions or readmission
    • Submit immunization information (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella)
    • Submit high school transcripts (college transcripts for transfer students)
    • Submit ACT test scores (if under 21 years of age) or take  the COMPASS (transfer students who have completed college-level English or Math with a grade of “C” or higher should have transcripts mailed to the Office of Admissions & Records)
  2. Have you completed your FAFSA?    Yes    -or-    No
  3. Know your Student D# ____________________
  4. How do you like to spend your free time? ______________________________________________________________________________________
  5. What are your long-term career goals? ______________________________________________________________________________________

    • If you are unsure of a career that would best suit your interests, you are encouraged to complete a career assessment.

      1. Where to take the career assessment:

        1. Log in to MyDSCC
        2. Click on the Student Tab
        3. Click on the Career Cruising link in the Student Quick Links box
      2. Once you are logged in:

        1. Create a Portfolio
        2. Click on the Assessments tab at the top of the page
        3. Begin the Career Matchmaker
  6. What are your educational goals? ______________________________________________________________________________________

    • Would you like for your advisor to tell you more about career options related to your educational goals?
  7. Print a copy of your academic plan to bring to the advising session.

    • Academic plans may be found by going to the:

      1.  DSCC Homepage
      2. Scroll mouse/arrow over Current Students
      3. Click on Advising Centers
      4. Click on Academic Plans in the Quick Links box located at the top, right-hand side of the page.
  8. Do you know which classes you need to take and/or already have a proposed class schedule?         

    •  Yes  -or-  No
  9. Where do you wish to take your classes?   Dyersburg    -or-    Jimmy Naifeh Center    -or-    Gibson County Center
  1. Know your username and password.
