When a LPN-RN Fast Track program is being offered, packets are developed that include all the information related to the program and the application process. You may obtain a packet by going to the DSCC nursing website under Programs or by contacting the Division of Nursing secretary at 731-286-3390 in the Dyersburg area or 901-475-3182 in the Covington area.
To be considered for admission to nursing, you must met all eligibility criteria. These includes completion of all pre-college learning support courses, cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above (nursing curriculum courses only), submission of an application, and completion of the standardized preadmission test. Points are calculated for applicants meeting eligibility criteria. The applicants with the highest points are selected. Points are awarded for the following: cumulative GPA based upon nursing curriculum courses (your GPA x 2); HESI score (your score / 10); and science courses (A&P I, A&P II, & Microbiology) with an A or B (1 point for each grade B or above). Points are tallied and your total points are used to rank you among the other applicants. All applicants' points are tabulated the same.
If you are interested in our traditional daytime RN program, you will need to take the HESI exam. If you are already an LPN, you may be eligible to apply for the Fast Track program and will need to take the NLN ACE exam. However, if you are an LPN but prefer the traditional daytime program, you will need to take the HESI test.
The LPN-RN Fast Track program is offered yearly with classes beginning in May. It is a one year program that will complete in May of the following year. The campus location is dependent upon faculty availability. To get the most recent information regarding this program, please contact the Division of Nursing at 731-286-3390 in the Dyersburg area or 901-475-3182 in the Covington area. You may also access information on the DSCC website at www.dscc.edu under Programs.
The HESI test is a computer generated test; therefore, you will see your results at the completion of the test. The NLN ACE exam is a paper/pencil exam. After NLN scores the exam, the results are sent to the Division of Nursing. A copy is placed into your file and the original is mailed to you. This takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks after the testing date.
Submit a written request for transfer along with a letter of recommendation from the director of the previous nursing program verifying your good standing to the Nursing Admission and Retention Committee.
Submit all official transcripts and appropriate course descriptions from the previous school of nursing. Nursing courses over three years old must be repeated. Nursing courses will be evaluated on an individual basis. Transfer admission is based upon space availability. You must also meet the same requirements as students seeking readmission. See the "Readmission and Transfer into the Nursing Program" section in the college catalog.
The ACE (NLN Acceleration Challenge Exam) is the exam used for admission into the LPN-RN Fast Track program. The exam dates are posted on the testing page of our website at www.dscc.edu and is also included on the LPN-RN Fast Track nursing website. A score of 75 is required for admission. The exam can only be taken twice.
The HESI exam may be taken as many times as desired. However, there must be at least six (6) months between testing dates. The highest score will be used for point calculations.
The HESI exam can be retaken as many times as desired but there must be at least six (6) months between testing dates. The score is good for three years. The ACE exam score is also good for three years. The ACE can only be taken twice.
DSCC does not have a pass or fail score for the HESI. However, the higher the score, the more points you accumulate toward your total points for admission.
The HESI exam fee is $32.00 for the traditional nursing program and the NLN ACE exam is $60.00 for the LPN-RN Advance Standing Fast Track program. These fees are subject to change by the companies providing the exams. Once paid, the fees are non-refundable.
Go to www.dscc.edu. Choose Programs from the red bar. Choose either A.A.S. in Nursing or LPN-RN Fast Track Nursing. The links to the nursing packets will be located there.
Pre-requisites for nursing include: college prep courses (R&D) and the Pre-RN entrance exam (HESI) that have to be completed prior to the application deadline. The general education courses and science courses can be taken concurrent with the nursing courses; however, you need to pay close attention to when they are required related to the nursing courses.
You must have a GPA of 2.5 or above, successfully completed all Learning Support courses, taken the HESI exam, and completed a current nursing application. If you are not a current student at DSCC, you will also need to apply for admission as a student. If you have attended any other college or university, all transcripts must be forwarded to DSCC Records as well as the Division of Nursing prior to the application deadline.
