It's a fact that to earn in today's world you must invest in learning. You can learn close to home at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC). DSCC is a growing and dynamic institution with a long history of serving students in Northwest Tennessee. 

With a focus on student learning, DSCC offers quality academic programs including the following:

Proprams in the University Parallel major with concentrations in 20 areas of study.  Completion of this major in one of its concentrations leads to the
Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degree for transfer to a four-year college or university.

Programs designed for direct entry into the work place are also available. With seven different majors and 11 concentrations, students can earn an Associate of Applied Science degree.  

DSCC also offers  technical and academic certificate programs that respond to emerging career opportunities in technologies avialable in the DSCC service area.

A developmental studies program is available to enhance learning experiences and the skills necessary for success in college-level courses.

An honors program expands students’ thinking and achievement.

A service learning program integrates classroom learning with real community partners.

In addition, there are two different types of online learning opportunities at DSCC.

A continuing education program provides educational opportunities through a variety of non-credit courses for children and adults.

An International Studies program provides cultural and educational opportunites to assist in global education for DSCC students.

A variety of student support services is available to increase the opportunity for student success and to provide increased access to education via technology-assisted instruction, distance learning, and traditional course offerings.

To assist with the cost of financing higher education, services are available to provide access to federal and state financial aid and locally funded scholarships.  A variety of student support services is available as well as

DSCC offers a seamless transition among institutions through articulation agreements with area high schools, Tennessee technology centers and four-year institutions.

A bit about DSCC
The home campus of DSCC is in Dyersburg, and centers are located in Covington, Trenton and Union City. Nearly 2,600 students are enrolled in a variety of courses including criminal justice, nursing, allied health, business, technology, college transfer, and developmental studies.

DSCC is one of 19 higher education institutions regulated by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), the sixth largest system of higher education in the nation and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award the associate degree and academic and technical certificates.  Learning is enhanced by a variety of campus organizations, state-of-art technology, service learning opportunities, and sports programs. DSCC also serves the community by offering a variety of continuing education courses and online degree programs.

Admission or Readmission
Have you applied for admission? Click Admissions Requirements for information or click here to apply online.

Course Placement
If applicable, have you completed the requirements for course placement? Refer to Admissions Requirements if you are unsure. If your scores on either the ACT or the ACT COMPASS placed you in developmental studies courses,you must enroll in these prescribed courses.

Academic Advising and Class Selection
If you are degree-seeking, have you met with an advisor to review your course placement and to plan your schedule of classes? Class listings on the Web are accurate as of the time you view them.
 
If you plan to transfer to a university, you are responsible for planning your courses according to the requirements specified in that university’s catalog. Use the equivalency tables to determine the equivalent course numbers. If you are unsure of your major, consult with your academic advisor about the general education courses that are needed for transfer to a university. For information about how your courses will transfer to DSCC, go to Transfer Information.

Discuss your long-range plans with an advisor. You may call or e-mail advisors to set up appointments. In addition to each student’s faculty or staff advisor, help is available at the Advising Center located  on the Dyersburg campus in the Student Center, and at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County and at the DSCC Gibson County Center.

Register for Spring 2009

Payment of Fees/Confirmation of Enrollment
Go to the Business Office page on this Web site for up-to-date information regarding fees. Confirmation and fee payment instructions and deadlines may be found on this site. Look here, too, for instructions to view your bill and to enroll in deferred payment.

Parking Permit and Student ID
Obtain your parking permit and student ID. Take a copy of your schedule and the license plate number of the vehicle you plan to drive to campus to the Learning Resource Center in Dyersburg or to the Center where you have classes.

Textbooks
Buy your textbooks from the DSCC Bookstore located on the Dyersburg campus and at the DSCC Gibson County Center and at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County. Students enrolled in RODP courses should visit the RODP Virtual Bookstore.
