On Monday, June 29 Dyersburg State Community College will host a picnic and orientation for students taking part in the DSCC Honors program and their parents. At this picnic, DSCC President Karen Bowyer will announce the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to offer up to 20 Honors Scholars scholarships worth as much as $3000 each. “Educating students is the best way to help America recover,†said Dr. Bowyer in speaking of the use of the ARRA funds allotted to Dyersburg State. The picnic will begin at 5:30 P.M. and is being held on the patio of the new Student Center on the Dyersburg campus. Chair of the DSCC Honor Program Committee Dave Strong, DSCC Dean of Arts and Sciences Kay Patterson and Honors Program faculty members will be in on hand to answer questions. In order to qualify for the DSCC Honors Program, recent high school graduates must •have a minimum ACT score of 26; •have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale; •be accepted as a first-time, degree seeking student at DSCC. Once accepted to the Honors Program, scholars are required to •attend orientation; •take one honors course per semester; •complete twelve hours of Honors coursework at DSCC; •complete a culminating Honors project.
