Headline: Eagle baseball makes history!

Dyersburg State ends tourney with runner-up finish by Mike Smith, State Gazette. Playing in the first championship game in school history on Friday May 8, the Eagles faced Volunteer State for the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 7 and Tennessee Community College Conference title. After six complete innings, Dyersburg State looked poised to bring home the championship hardware after taking a 3-2 lead. However, the Pioneers scored two runs on two hits including a 2-run blast from Volunteer State's Heath Barnes to give the Pioneers a 4-3 lead. The Pioneers added two runs in the eighth and four more in the top of the ninth to secure the victory, winning the championship game and ending Dyersburg State's season, 10-4. The Eagles overall record for 2009 was 31-21. This is the first time any DSCC athletic team has finished this high in the rankings. Congratulations men!
