The General Studies emphasis guides students who are undecided about career and/or choice of transfer institutions. It also guides students whose academic goals cannot be met by other areas of emphasis offered by DSCC.
Two options exist for General Studies. One is for students needing to take a foreign (modern) language and the other is for students who don't. Please check with the institution you plan to transfer to for degree requirements.
Note: This option requires a foreign language.
Typical jobs: These degree programs prepare students to transfer to another college or university to continue their studies by using general courses. The student will select their focus area at the transfer institution. They prepare students for careers in various professional fields, including education, law, government, health care, and social service.
The General Education Core Certificate is awarded to students who complete the required courses in the general education core leading to the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree. The General Education Core requirements are equivalent at all Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) community colleges and universities.
