Verification Instructions

Your FAFSA may be selected for "verification". If selected, you must provide all requested documents before any financial aid can be awarded.  

What do I need in order to complete verification?

Check your MyDSCC account to see if documents are needed to complete your financial aid file.  Complete and submit the forms that pertain to you. Visit the Paying for College page for a complete list of Financial Aid Forms.

If you did not use the IRS Data Retrieval Match Process to transfer your tax return information to the FAFSA please follow the instructions below to order your tax transcript. 

Do not send copies of 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ. These are no longer acceptable verification documents.

How do I request an IRS Tax Transcript?

There are three ways you can order a tax return transcript from the IRS.

Phone: You may order transcripts by calling the IRS at 1-800-908-9946.

  • Tax filers must follow prompts to enter their social security number and the numbers in their street address.
  • Select “Option 2” to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript and then enter “year”.
    • If successfully validated, tax filers can expect to receive a paper IRS Tax Return Transcript at the address that was used in their telephone request, within 5 to 10 business days.

online: You may view, print, and download transcripts by going to www.irs.gov

  • Tax filers will need the following to verify identification:
    • Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and mailing address from latest tax return
    • Access to your email account
    • A credit card number; account number from an auto loan, mortgage, home equity loan, or home equity line of credit
    • Mobile phone with the tax filer's name on the account

mail: You may order transcripts online at www.irs.gov to be mailed to you at the address on file within 5-10 business days

  • Tax filers will need the following to verify identification:
    • Social Security Number or Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN)
    • Date of Birth
    • Mailing address from latest tax return
