Is Teaching your passion? Each year more students make the smart choice to attend DSCC to begin their teaching education and then transfer to a four-year college or university.
The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) two-year and four-year institutions developed the K-6 emphasis for the Associate of Science in Teaching Degree to ensure a seamless transfer among the 19 TBR institutions of higher education. This emphasis is common among all TBR institutions and is considered as fulfilling the coursework for the freshman and sophomore years at those institutions. This emphasis also fulfills the requirements for the first two years of the K-6 Integrated Studies degree at the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM).
Typical jobs: Teacher, educational assistant in a public or private school.
During the sophomore year, all students planning to teach should meet the PRAXIS Core Academic Skills for Educators or ACT testing requirements for their transfer institution.
