Section 2: Core Requirement 2.7.4
The institution provides instruction for all coursework required for at least one degree program at each level at which it awards degrees. If the institution does not provide instruction for all such course work and (1) makes arrangements for some instruction to be provided by other accredited institutions or entities through contracts or consortia or (2) uses some other alternative approach to meeting this requirement, the alternative approach much be approved by the Commission on Colleges. In both cases, the institution demonstrates that it controls all aspects of its educational program.
Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Core Requirement 2.7.4.
Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:
Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) provides instruction for all course work in at least one degree program at each level (associate) for which it awards degrees. Programs of instruction are listed in the annual catalog and student handbook [Ref 1] and in the schedule of classes [Ref 2]. Programs for which DSCC provides instruction are listed in the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Academic Listing of Majors and Degrees Offered [Ref 3].
Prior to Fall 2001, DSCC and the 18 other higher education institutions in the TBR collectively proposed a Substantive Change [Ref 4] to begin offering online courses and degree programs through the Regents Online Degree Program (RODP) [Ref 5]. On August 13, 2001, the former Executive Director of the Commission on Colleges notified the TBR Chancellor that “based on the quality of your submission, I am pleased to accept your documentation and incorporate this development in the scope of accreditation for each of the 19 participating institutions” [Ref 6].
Through this collaborative with its sister institutions, DSCC offers more than one hundred online courses [Ref 7] and three online degrees: Associate of Arts in the University Parallel Major with a concentration in General Studies, Associate of Science in the University Parallel Major with a concentration in General Studies, and the Associate of Applied Science in the Professional Studies Major with a concentration in Information Technology [Ref 7]. These courses and degree programs are included in DSCC’s course inventory [Ref 8] maintained in the Student Information System (SIS Plus) as well as in its program inventory [Ref 9] which is also maintained in SIS Plus.
Andrea Franckowiak, DSCC Associate Professor of Writing, is a member of the RODP Curriculum Committee [Ref 10] and keeps the DSCC Instructional Council [Ref 11] informed about newly-proposed RODP courses and programs.
