Section 3: Comprehensive Standard 3.1.1
The mission statement is current and comprehensive, accurately guides the institution’s operations, is periodically reviewed and updated, is approved by the governing board, and is communicated to the institution’s constituencies.
Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.1.1.
Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:
Dyersburg State Community
College (DSCC) has a current and comprehensive mission statement
[Ref 1]
approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) [Ref
2] [Ref 3],
the governing board for the institution. The mission is reviewed by the
governing board on a five year cycle and is communicated to the institution’s
constituencies in the DSCC Catalog and Student Handbook [Ref
4] and the DSCC Web site [Ref
5]. The TBR reviews mission statements every five years. The most recent
system wide deadline for mission statement submission for TBR staff review was
November 2004 [Ref
6].
A college-wide task force
[Ref 7]
developed the mission statement in 2004 based on instructions
[Ref 8]
provided by the TBR Staff. Each year the Office of Institutional Advancement
issues a call for comment on the mission statement to faculty and staff [Ref
9]. If a significant change were to be required, DSCC can propose the
change to the TBR for review and approval. The mission statement guides the
institution’s operations [Ref
10].
