Section 3: Comprehensive Standard 3.2.8

The institution has qualified administrative and academic officers with the experience, competence, and capacity to lead the institution.

 

Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.2.8.

 

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:

 

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) has qualified administrative and academic officers with the experience, competence, and capacity to lead the institution [Ref 1].

 

The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is responsible for the selection and employment of the DSCC President [Ref 2]. The President is evaluated annually by TBR upon accomplishment of DSCC annual objectives, the ability to serve as the leader of the campus community, maintain strong external relationships, commitment of the institution, TBR, and implementation of Board policies [Ref 3].

 

The President, or designee(s), determines the minimum qualifications for the appointment of DSCC administrative and academic officers, subject to any minimum qualifications for personnel positions which may be established by TBR [Ref 4]. Additional guidelines for employing personnel are provided in TBR Guideline P-010 [Ref 5] and in DSCC Policy 06:15:00 [Ref 6]. The DSCC Human Resources Department maintains systems for establishing and classifying positions and for filling them with qualified employees. Comprehensive position descriptions that delineate major responsibilities and minimum qualifications required of applicants have been created [Ref 7].

All administrative and academic administrators satisfy the requirements prescribed by position descriptions.

The effectiveness of each administrative and academic officer is evident in the midyear and annual reports each submits for the Institutional Effectiveness Tracking System [Ref 8] and by the evaluation of that officer by his or her supervisor [Ref 9].
