Section 3: Comprehensive Standard 3.4.5
The institution publishes academic policies that adhere to principles of good educational practice. These are disseminated to students, faculty, and other interested parties through publications that accurately represent the programs and services of the institution.

Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.4.5.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:

As a member of the Tennessee Board of Regents System, Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) adheres to academic policies and procedures developed and approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR). Academic policies and academic guidelines are published and disseminated online at the TBR Web site [Ref 1]. All students, faculty, and other interested parties have access to this Web site.

In addition, academic policies that govern admissions, awarding of grades, class attendance, transfer of academic credit between institutions, eligibility for graduation and other pertinent information may be found in the College’s annual catalog, class schedule and other publications [Ref 2] [Ref 3] [Ref 4] [Ref 5]. The College catalog is available to students and faculty on the College’s Web site and in hard copy. The DSCC Student Handbook is also available on the College’s Web site as well as in hard copy as part of the College catalog. The DSCC Student Handbook and the DSCC Policies and Procedures Manual clearly describe the rights and responsibilities of students, procedures for filing complaints, and a system of due process for dealing with complaints including grade appeals [Ref 6] [Ref 7].

Regular opportunities for faculty and staff to meet at both the state level and on campus promote good educational practices [Ref 8]. The TBR schedules quarterly sub-council meetings in Nashville for faculty, academic officers, and student services administrators to review policies and bring information back to campus [Ref 9].

The DSCC Faculty Handbook contains policies on tenure, promotion, academic freedom and faculty load and additional academic policies are available in the DSCC Policies and Procedures Manual [Ref 10] [Ref 11].
