COMPLIANCE AUDIT REPORTS

Section 3: Comprehensive Standard 3.5.3
The institution defines and publishes requirements for its undergraduate programs, including its general education components. These requirements conform to commonly accepted standards and practices for degree programs.

Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.5.3.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:

The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) determines the program length of all associate degree programs at Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) [Ref 1]. All associate degree programs require 60 semester hours with the exception of the associate degree in nursing, which requires 66 hours and the associate degree in Health Information Technology, which requires 65 hours. These exceptions are due to accreditation requirements determined by external accrediting bodies and are provided for in the TBR policy.

The general education component of the Associate of Science and Associate of Arts transfer degree programs is set at 41 semester hours, leaving 19 hours for courses related to the student’s area of concentration. Associate of Applied Science degrees require between 15 and 17 hours of general education courses [Ref 2]. The remaining hours in the degree directly relate to courses specific to the work skills required by the concentration.

A complete listing of all associate degrees and programs, program length, and curricula associated with each program is found in the DSCC 2006-2007 Catalog and Student Handbook [Ref 3].
