Section 3: Comprehensive Standard 3.7.2
The institution regularly evaluates the effectiveness of each faculty member in accord with published criteria, regardless of contractual or tenured status.

Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.7.2.

Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:

Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) regularly evaluates the effectiveness of each faculty member in accord with published criteria, regardless of contractual or tenured status.

Faculty members at Dyersburg State Community College are evaluated on an annual basis. Responsibility for evaluating faculty members rests with the division deans and the Director of Developmental Studies. Evaluation of full-time faculty members is based on criteria established by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) for community colleges [Ref 1]. Evaluation criteria are published in TBR Policies and Guidelines and/or DSCC Policies and Procedures and are available to faculty through the faculty handbook [Ref 2] [Ref 3] [Ref 4]. The evaluation includes a student evaluation instrument, which was developed by the college process [Ref 5] [Ref 6].

Evaluation for full-time faculty members is conducted according to the calendar year. For the coming year, faculty members must submit performance objectives. Early in the new calendar year, faculty members submit a report of their activities for the previous year and meet with their division dean or director to discuss the performance objectives, their activity report, as well as their annual evaluation. At this time, the division dean or director may make changes in the objectives to reflect any areas of improvement identified in the evaluation. The division dean has access to the results of the student evaluation instrument and uses them in preparation for these meetings [Ref 7].

Full-time faculty members are also evaluated for promotion and tenure. This evaluation includes peer review. The criteria for promotion and tenure are clearly stated in the DSCC Faculty Handbook [Ref 8], DSCC Policies and Procedures Handbook [Ref 9] [Ref 10] and TBR Policies and Guidelines [Ref 11] [Ref 12]. Final approval for promotion and tenure rests with TBR. Each year those faculty members eligible for promotion and tenure are asked to meet with their respective dean, the President and the Vice President for the College to review both procedures and criteria. Each faculty member is provided with guidelines for preparing their application for promotion and tenure [Ref 13] [Ref 14].
