Section 3: Comprehensive Standard 3.9.1
The institution publishes a clear and appropriate statement of student rights and responsibilities and disseminates the statement to the campus community.
Statement of Compliance: Dyersburg State Community College is in compliance with Comprehensive Standard 3.9.1.
Rationale for Judgment of Compliance:
Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) publishes a clear and appropriate statement of student rights and responsibilities annually in the college catalog and student handbook [Ref 1], which is distributed to new students and is available to all students in the Office of Admissions and Records at the Dyersburg campus and at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center at Tipton County (JNCTC), the DSCC Gibson County Center (GCC), and the DSCC Obion County Training and Education Center (OCTEC). The student handbook, which is included with the publication of the annual college catalog, is available on the DSCC Web site [Ref 2]. Students who attend orientation programs are also directed to this information.
Rights and responsibilities statements included in the annual catalog and student handbook include the DSCC Code on Honor and Citizenship [Ref 3], Confidentiality of Student Records [Ref 4], Student Right to Know information [Ref 5], Policy Statement of Non-Discrimination [Ref 6], and the Code for Computer Resource Use [Ref 7].
Rights and responsibilities statements included in the handbook include information about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) [Ref 8], student conduct [Ref 9], academic and classroom misconduct [Ref 10], search and seizure [Ref 11], sexual harassment [Ref 12], smoking and tobacco use [Ref 13], assistance available to students under the Americans with Disabilities Act [Ref 14], alcohol/drug abuse [Ref 15], and traffic and parking regulations [Ref 16].
These rights and responsibilities are reviewed annually as DSCC updates its annual catalog and student handbook in compliance with Tennessee Board of Regents’ (TBR) annual request to review policies and procedures and are compliant with applicable state and federal laws [Ref 17].
