Navigating Within The DSCC SACS Reaffirmation Site
Hardware and Software You Will Need
In order to read and navigate most effectively within this electronic version of the Compliance Audit, you will need the following:
· Personal computer with a DVD drive
· An internet connection
· A standard Web browser – for best results, we recommend Internet Explorer
Navigating Our SACS Web Site
General Information:
The Dyersburg State Community College SACS Web site is best viewed using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 at a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels or greater. Some links (anchors, direct-to-page-# links, etc.) may not function properly in other browsers.
This site is broken down into four categories: SACS Home, Reference Index, Compliance Certification, and Quality Enhancement Plan. These categories are listed on the menu bar at the top of each page and contain several components. When viewing a particular category, the components are listed on that page. Each category can also be accessed from the "SACS Home Page" (http://www.dscc.edu/sacs) at any time.
General Navigation Tips:
- At the top of each page are navigation bars that take the reader to the main sections of the site.
- Each of the main sections of the Web site has its own sub page with a directory of its contents; click on any of these links to access its content.
- The numbers within compliance report narratives are links to excerpt documents. The full version is also available for review if desired in the table at the bottom of the page.
- The arrows at the top of each compliance narrative are links to either the preceding or next narrative.
- The title "Compliance Audit Reports" at the top of each page is a direct link back to the main Compliance Narrative page.
- Whenever you open a document, the documentation opens in a new page. When you finish reading a document, click the back button in the browser window to return to the compliance window.
- Page numbers in the text of the compliance certification that refer to catalogs are often the numbers printed on the pages themselves rather than to the number of the page listed by Acrobat Reader on the information bar at the bottom of the Acrobat Reader window. These page numbers may differ slightly.
Navigating DSCC’s Faculty Qualifications (Roster):
On our SACS Home page under Reference Index is the Faculty Qualifications, which is DSCC’s Faculty Roster.
For best viewing results, Netscape is recommended; however, the roster can also be viewed using other standard Web browsers.
Accessing this information requires a Username and Password, which have been provided to the Off-site Review Committee in print form.
Accessing the Faculty Qualifications database affords you with the following options:
- View an alphabetical list of faculty;
- View faculty by teaching discipline;
- View faculty by academic division;
- View the entire roster as a single document sorted by teaching discipline;
- View the entire roster as a single document sorted alphabetically by faculty name.
After selecting any of the first three options above, you can access more information by clicking the “Details” button. Doing so will display the following information:
- Column One - Name of faculty member and status (Full-time or Part-time) and tenure status (Tenured or Tenure Track or Not Tenure Eligible).
- Column Two - Courses taught by the faculty member and an indication if the course is offered for transfer (T), non-transfer (N), or developmental (D). Please note that if a faculty member teaches across disciplines, his/her courses are listed in identical order each place the instructor is listed in the roster.
- Column three - List of academic credentials;
- Column Four – Other qualifications.
Course Description and Student Learning Outcomes
In the second column, the Course Description and Student Learning Outcomes are accessible by clicking the course title. Click the “Close” button in the window to return to the roster.
If the option to view the entire roster as a single document by teaching discipline or by faculty name is selected, a search can be performed for the name of a specific faculty member or course by hitting Control-F.
Clicking the “Back” and “Forward” buttons allow navigation within the roster.

Navigating Our SACS DVD
General Navigation Tips:
§ Insert the DVD into the DVD drive of your computer.
§ If the DVD does not start automatically, go to "My Computer," and double click on the icon representing your DVD drive.
§ When the directory window opens, indicating the contents of the DVD, double click on the file named "Index.htm." This will open the site's start page.
General Information
As you navigate through this Web site, you will be able to access two categories of files: those contained on the DVD and those contained in various remote locations.
·
All of the essential files are written onto the DVD in PDF format
and are accessible by clicking on the "
" icon. These include the statements of rationale, most of the dozens
of documents supporting those statements, and all of the
catalogs and handbooks. These files you should be able to access
very quickly and very dependably if your DVD is in your
computer.
· There are also active links to other files that are on remote servers. These files include the Web pages maintained by various departments at DSCC (used to support some of the statements of rationale), and external web sites maintained by other agencies such as the Tennessee Board of Regents or Tennessee Higher Education Commission. Links to the actual remote sites are also provided along with the PDF file within the SACS site. You will be able to access the actual files on remote servers only when your internet connection (and theirs) are working; and they require varying amounts of "download" time.
Documentation references in the Reference
Index that are not included on the DVD will not have the "
" icon and will require an Internet connection.
It will be faster, but not essential, for you to work with the DVD in your computer. Nevertheless, if you ever find yourself without the DVD, you may continue your work by accessing DSCC's main reaffirmation site at http://www.dscc.edu/sacs/index.htm. Just type that address into your browser. This is possible because the DVD mirrors a parallel site on DSCC’s server.
Adobe Acrobat Reader
A working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Reader is essential to getting around easily in this site because the many ".pdf" files are accessible only through Acrobat Reader. If you do not have this software installed on your computer, you will need to download and install the free software directly from Adobe. Go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html and follow the directions on the screen.
Once you find yourself in a .pdf file, some tools are especially useful..
1.
One is the box in the middle of the status bar at the bottom of
the window that contains the page reference
. Some PDF files to full versions of reference documents may require
the user to type the page number defined in the reference into
the page reference window.
2.
Second is the icon that looks like a printed page
. Clicking on it and selecting "continuous" rather than "single page"
will allow you to use the "hand" cursor to scroll up and down.
3.
Another Useful tool is the "document size" selector
. Adjusting the percentage allows you to increase or decrease the size
of the document.
We recommend that you view at 100% magnification for the best
results.
4.
Also Find is a very helpful feature. Once the PDF file has been
opened choose the Edit Menu and then Find. The Find box will
open.
![]()
In the Find text box key in the term you are searching for the
in PDF file and then click Next. The first location of the term
will be found.
