  1. Apply with our free, online application
  2. Transfer Coursework
    • Request your military transcripts:
      • For joint service transcripts (JST) go to
      • For Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) go to:
    • Request your official high school transcripts
    • If you have attended another college or university, you will need to request an official copy of all transcripts.
  3. Submit your Certificate of Eligibility
    • You must provide a copy of your COE for each benefit you wish to use. A COE should be submitted your first semester at Dyersburg State and upon request from the VA Certifying Official thereafter. 
  4. Apply for Veteran Educational Benefits
    • Federal benefits including Chapter 33, Chapter 30, Chapter 31, Chapter 35 and 1606.

  5. Using Tuition Assistance (TA) or GoArmy?
    • All military personnel planning to use this option are reminded to contact their command Educational Service Officer (ESO) or their command Military Counselor to receive approval for funding PRIOR to enrolling in any classes at DSCC.
    • Failure to receive approval prior to enrollment may result in the TA student having to pay for the entire amount of tuition and fees themselves.
  6. Complete the FAFSA
    • You will be asked to complete the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for additional aid. Completion of your FAFSA and subsequent awarding of aid can help defray costs when your benefits do not meet your expenses or when the VA is delayed in payments.

  7. Take placement tests
    • Reading, writing and math placement tests are administered to determine appropriate course placement and satisfy course prerequisites.
    • Contact our Testing Center for availability on testing services.
  8. Develop an Educational Plan
    • Our Veterans Academic Success Coach will assist you in reviewing general education, degree and certificate requirements and the transferability of courses. They will work with you to develop an educational plan and help you develop success strategies. 
    • It is important to designate a program of study. Classes will only be certified if classes are recognized in a program towards an A.A. or A.S. Degree.
  9. Register for classes: You will be able to register at a designated orientation day on campus. If you are unable to come to campus, we will schedule a day and time to register for your classes.
