Men's Basketball Coaching Staff
Coach Kline was appointed men’s head basketball coach and athletic director at Dyersburg State in July 2020. He comes to Dyersburg State from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville (Arkansas) where he served as head basketball coach of the men’s basketball team from 2014-2020. Here he led his team to a 96-79 record with the fourth most wins in school history and two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament appearances. Before this, he served as assistant basketball coach and assistant NCAA compliance director from 2011-2014 where he assisted in leading his team to a Great American Conference (GAC) tournament championship and three regular season GAC championships. He served as assistant men’s basketball coach for Coastal Bend College in Beeville (Texas) from 2010-2011; head men’s basketball coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger (Texas) from 2005-2010; and assistant men’s basketball coach at Frank Phillips College from 2003-2005. Kline has a career head coaching record of 186-99.
Kline earned an Associate in Arts degree from Barton County Community College in 2000; a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies from Fort Hays State University in 2003; and a Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel from Arkansas Tech University in 2014.
Kline and his wife Courtney, along with their three children, Owen, Troy and Kennedy, reside in Dyersburg.
Sam Waniewski is in his first season at Dyersburg State, following a year as an Assistant for Seward County CC. Known as a relentless recruiter, he spent one year as an Assistant at University of Louisiana Monroe, two seasons with Tallahassee CC, and a season at Midland College. He came to Midland after assisting Vincennes University to a 30-0 regular season record and 33-2 overall record. Prior to Vincennes, he was the Director of Basketball Operations at Furman.
A native of Woodland, Calif., Waniewski spent one season as Video Coordinator at Colorado State University. During his time in Fort Collins, Colo., the Rams earned an NCAA Tournament berth and advanced past Missouri before falling to eventual national champion Louisville. Waniewski joined the Rams staff after working as a graduate assistant under first-year Colorado State coach Larry Eustachy at Southern Miss during the 2011-12 season.
Waniewski earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching and administration from Chico State University in 2009. While at Chico State, he was a member of the Wildcat’s basketball program.
