Book Advances

Beginning with the Fall 2025 semester, students will no longer need to apply for or submit a Book Voucher form. DSCC will now offer Book Advances, which will allow students to access a portion of their anticipated financial aid to purchase textbooks, manuals, and supplies (excluding electronics, clothing, soft goods, etc.) at either DSCC Bookstore location, as well as online.

Who is eligible for a book advance?

To be eligible for a book advance, you must meet all of the following requirements:

  1. You have met all Financial Aid requirements and been awarded aid.
  2. You have completed a Title IV Authorization. Please note, if you previously answered “No” on the authorization, you will need to contact Financial Aid by emailing financialaid@dscc.edu and request your response be updated to “Yes” in order to qualify for a book advance.
  3. You are registered for classes with a finalized schedule.
  4. You have a valid Dyersburg State student ID at the time of checkout.

When can you start using your book advance?

  • If you are eligible, you will receive an email from the DSCC Bookstore indicating your available book advance balance on August 18. You will be able to charge books and supplies against your book advance both in-store and online from August 18 – September 3.
  • If you do not meet all the conditions to be eligible for a book advance on August 18, it may take 1-2 days from the day you meet all the requirements before you will be able to charge books.
  • You must meet all the requirements by August 29 in order to use a book advance.

How much will your book advance be?

The book advance amount will be equal to the refund due to you after all financial aid has been applied to your account, up to a maximum of $760. This amount will be reduced by any charges for electronic instructional materials already included on your account.
