Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) Workforce Development will host a “Lunch & Learn” program on Wednesday, August 5, for members and friends of the Covington-Tipton County Chamber of Commerce.
The program, titled “Strategies for Real-World Leadership,” will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the DSCC Jimmy Naifeh Center, 3149 Highway 51 S., in Covington, TN.
The cost is $10 for Chamber members and $20 for non-members. Lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Presenter Oliver Smith’s presentation will focus on leadership strategies from Jim Collins’s Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap … and Others Don’t. The popular business management book identifies key characteristics of companies that transition from good performance to sustained greatness, including a concept called Level 5 Leadership.
Smith is the owner and CEO of WhiteRock Strategies, a Covington-based strategic planning and advisory firm serving small business owners across a variety of industries. He also teaches a new non-credit course through DSCC Workforce Development titled The Edge Masterclass: A Mini-MBA in Real-World Leadership, available this fall at the Jimmy Naifeh Center in Covington and on DSCC’s main campus in Dyersburg.
The Edge Masterclass is an accelerated, 30-hour alternative to a traditional MBA or certificate program, designed to deliver practical, real-world leadership skills in a flexible, 10-week format. Through scenario-based learning, hands-on projects, and insights from CEOs and community leaders, participants gain applicable business knowledge drawn from top leadership books and business concepts.
“I would encourage any business owner, leader, supervisor, or manager to consider taking the course as soon as possible,” Smith said. “The content and skills you gain will propel you years ahead in growth opportunities.”
The Department of Workforce Development at DSCC provides learning opportunities through certificate programs, customized workforce training, personal enrichment classes, and youth programs.
