Dyersburg State Community College Esports has two distinct parts: an academic pathway and a competitive varsity program. Together they give students both a credentialed foundation in the esports and technology industry and the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. Students can engage with either part on its own or both at once – the two are complementary but independent.
Esports
Mission and Purpose
The mission of DSCC Esports is to foster a competitive and inclusive environment where students can grow as players, teammates, and individuals, while also introducing them to the broader esports industry and the career paths within it. The program serves students through two avenues:
The first is the academic pathway, which begins with CITC 1000 – Esports, an introductory course that explores what esports is, how to get involved, and what careers are available in the field. The course is open to any student interested in learning about the industry regardless of whether they compete and serves as an entry point into the broader Esports Certificate.
The second is the competitive varsity program, which fields teams in NJCAAE sanctioned competition beginning in the 2026-2027 season. Through organized practice, coaching, and inter-collegiate play, students sharpen strategic thinking, communication, and collaboration while representing the college.
These two parts operate independently. A student may take the coursework without competing, compete without pursuing the certificate, or do both. Across both, the program is committed to community, student development, and building transferable skills in leadership, discipline, and teamwork that support students’ academic and professional goals.
Certificates and Degrees
DSCC offers and Esports Certificate, a 16-credit-hour credential embedded within the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Information Systems. Students in the certificate program will:
- Actively engage with or adjacently to the college’s official esports team
- Gain knowledge of competitive gaming and team operations
- Develop skills in marketing, webpage design, software applications, and web graphics
The certificate is embedded within the A.A.S. in Computer Information Systems, and completing the AAS prepares students for workplace roles using a variety of systems, applications computer languages, and industry tools.

- Open to students at all levels, from dual enrollment to traditional
