Learning Support Program

Placement Information

Placement into Learning Support Program courses is based on multiple measures of assessment. Applicants with the following are exempt from placement in Learning Support coursework.

  • A high school grade point average (GPA) of 3.60 or higher earned in the last 5 years.
  • ACT® scores of 18 or higher in English and 19 or higher in Reading and Math earned in the last 5 years.
  • Passing grades in a college‑level English, Mathematics, and a reading‑intensive course from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • ACCUPLACER® scores in English, Mathematics, and Reading of 200-249 indicating college‑level placement.

Students with Learning Support requirements may not enroll in courses that list the related Learning Support area as a prerequisite. Students who drop, withdraw, earn a grade below C or otherwise do not successfully complete a Learning Support course are subject to the same enrollment restrictions each subsequent registration until the requirement is fulfilled. Students may not elect to enroll in Learning Support requirements for which they are exempt and may not audit a learning support course.

If you have any questions concerning placement into Learning Support Program courses, please contact Ms. Stacie Purvis at 731-286-3388 or via email at purvis@dscc.edu.

Challenging Learning Support Placement using ACCUPLACER®

The ACCUPLACER® is a computerized placement assessment used to measure a student’s proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics. Complete a free Brush‑Up session with the Academic Success Center (ASC).

Then schedule an appointment with the Testing Center to take the ACCUPLACER®. The first attempt is provided at no charge. Students who do not achieve the desired placement may retest once after a one-week study period at a cost of $10.00.
