Dyersburg State hires Wesley Pittman as Men’s Basketball Head Coach. Among many strong candidates, Pittman stood out as the ideal choice to lead a team that has faced challenges and aims for a significant turnaround on the court.
Currently the Associate Head Coach at Limestone University, Pittman has over a decade of experience developing successful basketball programs. He has coached at various levels, including stints at the University of Florida and Eastern Florida State College. While at Eastern Florida State College, he played a key role in guiding the team to a NJCAA Final Four appearance, achieving a #3 national ranking, and securing back-to-back Mid-Florida Conference Championships. Pittman’s coaching philosophy focuses on building strong relationships and fostering a culture based on character, effort, and accountability. He emphasizes using basketball to prepare young men for success beyond the court. Throughout his career, he has gained a reputation for developing high-character student-athletes and helping them excel athletically and personally.
Wesley earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Wingate University in May 2014. He continued his education at the University of Florida, obtaining his Master of Science in Sports Management in May 2016.
Regarding the hire, DSCC Athletic Director Steve Cornelison expressed his excitement about Coach Pittman, “I am thrilled to welcome Wesley Pittman to Dyersburg State as our new Men’s Basketball Head Coach. His experience at institutions like Limestone University and Eastern Florida State College, where he contributed to significant success, demonstrates his commitment to building a winning program. His proven abilities in recruiting, player development, and academic oversight, along with his basketball intellect and attention to detail, make him the ideal leader to guide our program into this new era of growth and success on and off the court. I am confident that Coach Pittman will bring high energy and expertise to Dyersburg State, and we look forward to a bright future for Eagles Basketball under his direction.”
When discussing his thoughts and aspirations in his new role, Coach Pittman stated, “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead this program. I can’t wait to meet everyone on campus and in the Dyersburg community. Our mission is to build a program that the college and community will be proud of, featuring talented, high-character student-athletes committed to excellence on and off the court.”
