Dyersburg State Community College proudly celebrated its Spring Class of 2025 during a heartfelt Nurse Pinning Ceremony held on May 9th at the E.H. Lannom, Jr. Gymnasium. The ceremony was filled with warmth, pride, and a shared commitment to nursing as graduates were honored for their significant achievements.

The event commenced with an invocation delivered by Ms. Macy Ruth Chandler, setting a reflective tone for the evening. Dr. Christy Hamilton, Director of Nursing, welcomed attendees and introduced the program, congratulating the graduates.

Dr. Scott Cook, President of Dyersburg State Community College, shared inspiring remarks, emphasizing the hard work and dedication required to succeed in the nursing field. This was followed by the recognition of class officers by Ms. Michelle Davis, celebrating the leadership shown by these individuals throughout their journey.

Messages from the student body were shared, with Traditional Class President Mr. Michael Graham and LPN-RN Class President Mr. Keanon King addressing the audience. Both articulated the pride and joy of their shared accomplishments while looking forward to their future in nursing.

The ceremony also honored exceptional contributions within the nursing program. Awards were presented, including the Friend of Nursing Awards by Ms. Jackie Watson, Dean of Health Sciences, and the Scholastic Awards by Ms. Kim Chrestman, Assistant Director of Nursing. Mr. W.C. Robinson presented the Clinical Practice Awards. At the same time, the Peggy Pendergrast Faculty Awards were given by Ms. Lisa Hayden, honoring those who made a lasting impact on the students’ educational journeys. The Friendship Awards were presented by Mr. Craig Metcalf, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the graduates.

As the ceremony progressed, Dr. Brittany Gatlin and Dr. Megan Matheson presented the Traditional and LPN-RN Classes graduates, respectively. The highlight of the evening was the symbolic Lighting of Lamps led by Ms. Darian Hudson, Ms. Christie Hamm, Mr. Mike Embrey, and Ms. Tammy Hines. This was followed by Ms. Abby O’Neal reciting the Nightingale Pledge, signifying the graduates’ commitment to their profession.

The ceremony concluded with a benediction by Ms. Kendra Currie, leaving graduates and guests filled with hope and pride in the bright futures awaiting the nursing class.
