Matt Marshall, President and CEO of the United Way of West Tennessee, will be the guest speaker at Dyersburg State Community College’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Luncheon at noon on January 16, held at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the Sells Family Lobby on the Dyersburg campus.

In a heartfelt reflection on Dr. King’s enduring influence, DSCC President Dr. Scott Cook emphasized the significance of coming together as a community to honor his legacy. He stated,  “Each year, our college and community gather to honor Dr. King’s legacy of courage, compassion, and service. His life reminds us that progress begins with those who choose hope and service above self. His belief in the power of education and humanity continues to guide us as we strive to strengthen our community, one grounded in hope, understanding, and respect. I appreciate the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce joining us once again to make this program possible at Dyersburg State.”

Matt Marshall brings a wealth of educational experience to the stage, having previously served as the Executive Director and Head of School at Hands Up! Preschool. Marshall’s passion for education was cultivated during his eight years at Union University, where he completed his undergraduate studies in Christian Ethics and earned a master’s degree in education. Additionally, he holds a credential in Leadership and Innovation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

An active community leader, Marshall serves on numerous boards, including Board Chair of the Sycamore Institute and Vice Chair of AIMHiTN. He is a member of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth and serves on several other significant task forces addressing critical issues in the region. His commitment to public service is further evidenced by his role on the Pastoral Team at Historic First Baptist Church.

Having deep roots in West Tennessee as a 7th-generation local, Marshall values family time and enjoys being involved with his wife and children.
